Meghna Naiker
Untitled
Moss, bark and rust, drawn one small mark at a time
Rust bleeds through green like an old wall after rain.
Thousands of small dots sit on the dark like seeds or lichen.
Ochre lines curl and drip, the way roots search for water.
In the centre a pale shape opens, cream and red, almost a face, almost a stone.
Look longer and the marks begin to move.
Each one is small. Together they hold you in place.
The work
Meghna Naiker studied Painting at the College of Art, Delhi and Visual Art at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi. Her practice starts with patterns in nature: forms, rhythms and repeated shapes that grow on their own. In this untitled mixed media work from 2025, tiny dots gather like moss. Wavy lines in ochre and rust run like bark across a dark green ground. Naiker also looks at patterns in society. She asks how the systems we follow show us a way and limit what we see.

My journey began with an exploration of patterns in nature — forms, rhythms, and repetitions that exist organically. Over time, this inquiry led me to question the patterns within human-constructed society — how every passing second subtly binds us to systems we rarely notice. I became deeply interested in how we are unconsciously ruled by these societal patterns — how every method of navigation, for…
