Funded by readers, so nobody else decides.

The Raconteur is funded by its readers. That is not a romantic position; it is a structural one. It means no advertiser decides which artist we put on the cover, and no sponsor gets to be uncomfortable about a story.

A subscription pays for reporting, photography, and the people who make both. It is not a donation, and it is not tax-deductible. It buys a magazine, and it keeps a young artist visible.

Paid subscriptions are not open yet. Until then, every issue is free for everyone who registers. Register below once and read every story in full, the flipbook and the archive. Students and faculty stay free after that, always. We will write to you the day paid subscriptions open.

Students and faculty

Verify once, read everything.

Your college address — the one ending .ac.in or .edu.in.

We send one email to confirm the address. We do not pass it to anyone and we do not use it for anything else unless you ask for the weekly letter.

What your money actually does

Subscription income pays for exactly three things: the writers and photographers who make the stories, the small team that runs the Foundation, and the cost of keeping this site online. It is accounted for separately from donations, which are held and reported on their own. We publish what we raised and what we spent, once a year, in full.

For companies

Complimentary access for your leadership team, and partnership options that put your name on the work rather than beside it.

Questions people ask

Is this tax-deductible?

No. A subscription is a purchase. Donations are a separate thing.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time. See our refund and cancellation policy.

Can I subscribe from outside India?

Through December 2026 the magazine is free wherever you are — just register. When paid plans begin, we will say here whether they can be bought from outside India.

Can I gift a subscription?

Through December 2026 there is nothing to pay — send them the link to register free. Gift subscriptions will follow when paid plans begin.

Is the magazine downloadable?

No. It is read on the site, in a flipbook, and it is not available as a file. Nothing can stop a screenshot, and we do not pretend otherwise.
