Revenue streams

Eight ways The Raconteur pays for itself.

No student ever pays us — not to submit, not to be featured, not to be listed. So the money has to come from readers, buyers and partners. Here is all of it.

01

Reader subscriptions

Students and faculty read free, always. Everyone else reads the lead story free and two more a month — and subscribes for the rest. Subscriptions are the base that keeps the magazine independent.

02

The catalogue

Work by featured artists, available to buy. The artist sets the price and is paid on every sale. What the Foundation keeps goes back into running the store and publishing the next artist.

03

Edition partners

Each month has a theme — New Beginnings, Material Worlds, The Body in Practice. One partner presents each edition, credited on every issue, the Studio Letter and the edition launch.

04

Section partners

Back a section all year: The Studio, First Year Out or The Long View. A clear, recurring association with one kind of artist.

05

Advertising

Display and video placements on the website and in the weekly Studio Letter — banners, roadblocks, static and video — always labelled, never inside a story.

06

Commissions & collaborations

Brands, architects and interior designers commission featured artists for products, spaces and campaigns. The artist is paid; we make the introduction and look after the brief.

07

Workshops, shows & campus programmes

Portfolio clinics, photographing-your-work workshops, and a yearly show of the artists we have published — with partners who want to meet them in person.

08

Institutional access

Libraries, art schools and companies buy access for their people — or give it: one subscription can open the magazine to a whole studio, department or office.

How to partner

Find your door.

For brands

Present an edition or a section, advertise in the magazine and the Studio Letter, or commission an artist. Your name in front of India’s next generation of artists — and money in their hands.

For art schools

Free, always. Your students get a national platform, a route to income and a lasting record of their work. We ask for a faculty contact, a noticeboard and, if you like, a seat on a panel.

For companies & patrons

Give the magazine to your team or your clients, sponsor a workshop on a campus, or underwrite a whole issue. Ask us for a tailored proposal.

For galleries, curators & designers

See new work first. Our catalogue and panel scores point you to artists before anyone else is looking — we will make the introduction.

What partners never get

Editorial is not for sale.

  • No partner sees a story before it is published.
  • No partner chooses, suggests or vetoes an artist. Our panel does that, on the work alone.
  • Anything paid for is labelled as paid for, every single time.
  • The artist keeps the copyright. We never sell an artist’s work or image to a partner.
