The questions artists ask us most. If yours is not here, write to kkfo@kalyanikalakriti.in or message us on WhatsApp at +91 98 8804 8804.

Who can apply?

Visual artists anywhere in India: students at art school (BFA, BVA, MFA, MVA, diploma or PhD), artists in their first years out of college, and anyone making serious work without formal art training. The call is rolling and does not close.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no fee to apply, to be featured, or to be listed in the Catalogue — and there never will be. If anyone asks you for money in our name, tell us the same day.

What do I send?

Up to eight works, one clear photograph each: straight on, in daylight, no filters, edges of the work visible. For each work, its title, year, medium and size in centimetres. Then a short artist statement, and process images if you have them. The form takes about fifteen minutes, plus the time the photographs take. Apply here.

Who decides?

Our Curatorial Lead shortlists from the open call. A panel of practising artists and art faculty then scores the shortlisted work without your name, college or city attached — on the work itself, a voice of its own, and a story worth telling.

What happens if I am selected?

Someone who has trained as an artist calls you, and we build your feature from that conversation and your detail form. We ask for more photographs of you and your work, and a short video about yourself and what you make. You see every quotation and every fact about you before it is published, and nothing is published until you sign a consent form.

Do I keep the rights to my work?

Yes, every one. We take a limited, non-exclusive licence to publish your work in the magazine, on this site and in material promoting the issue it appears in. You can sell, show and licence the same work anywhere else, at the same time.

Can I sell my work through The Raconteur?

Featured artists can list selected works in the Catalogue. You set the price, the Foundation finds and handles the buyer, and you are paid within seven days of the sale completing. Delivery is quoted to the buyer separately and never comes out of your share.

I am under eighteen. Can I apply?

Yes. If you are selected, a parent or guardian signs the consent form with you. It protects you.

I used AI tools. Can I still apply?

Tell us on the form, honestly, whether and how you used them. It is part of how the panel reads the work.

My work shows a recognisable person.

Say so on the form. Before we publish, we may ask for that person’s permission.

I was not selected. Can I apply again?

Yes. The call never closes, and you are welcome to send new work.

How do you treat my personal details?

Exactly as our privacy policy says, and as our promises to artists set out.
