Untitled
Two bodies kneel back to back behind a peeling wall
Purple dries on plaster like paint on an old door.
The cream edges crack and curl away from the wood.
In the grey middle, two people kneel with their backs almost touching.
One wears red. One wears blue.
Their faces go soft as breath on glass.
The wall comes apart around them
and they wait inside the dust, close and quiet.
The work
Pritesh Bhowmick paints two kneeling figures back to back. They sit in a grey haze on wood. Their heads fade into the smoke. Around them, thick plaster rises in broken patches of cream and purple. The edges chip like an old wall. Bhowmick calls the process "layering and unveiling." Surfaces are added and then peeled away. The figures stay half hidden behind the plaster. The work asks how identity is shown and how it is hidden. Bhowmick comes from Nabadwip and studied at Sir JJ School of Art.
In the artist’s words
“My process is one of layering and unveiling. I peel away surfaces, add new strata and build figures that move between realism and allegory. This mirrors how identities are revealed, hidden and reshaped, by personal choice or by social pressure.”
