The Open Studio / Vidushi Singh
Vidushi Singh
Weight of silence
A face that cannot hold its shape any longer
Grey dust holds a face that is coming apart.
The eyes close as if the light is too much.
Cheeks slide like wax near a lamp.
The open mouth says nothing. Only the teeth show.
Black runs from the chin and does not stop.
Around it the paper stays pale and quiet.
The work
Vidushi Singh draws this face in charcoal and pencil on a small sheet of paper, 29.7 × 21 cm. The eyes are shut. The mouth is open and the teeth show. The skin seems to melt and fold. Thick dark lines drip down from the chin. Singh uses shadow, distortion and flowing forms to show emotion. The work dates from 2025. Singh studies at Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Delhi University. Her city is Kanpur.
