She
She is in the wall and the water, not quite there
A buffalo waits in the wet yard, black as a cooking pot.
The mud wall holds a face it has kept for years.
Rain left the ground the colour of tea and brick.
A green-blue shape stands in the puddles, light as breath.
No one turns to look at her.
She stays anyway.
The work
Adarsh Mishra paints a black buffalo in a muddy village yard. A mud house with a brown roof stands behind it. Look closely and a face appears in the wall. A pale blue-green figure spreads across the wet ground in front. It is as thin as water. Mishra is from the College of Art in New Delhi. Mishra's work looks at ordinary places where people and their surroundings slowly merge. The title She points to a woman who has become part of the yard itself.
In the artist’s words
“I work with ordinary spaces, the kind that exist in the background of everyday life. Within these spaces, human figures appear, not as subjects but as quiet inhabitants. The boundary between the figure and its surroundings has grown less defined. They begin to merge, the way a person and a place can become inseparable after years of shared silence.”
