Samay Raina Caricature
His time may be bad. His grin says otherwise
A cone of cream light cuts the maroon dark.
He leans over his folded arms at the edge of a wooden table.
Red and black checks run square after square down his sleeves.
The silver microphone waits, its grille full of tiny holes.
His eyes slide sideways, as if he heard the joke first.
Above him the letters jump, red and loose, like a laugh half said.
The work
Mrunmayee Chaitanya Alandkar makes this caricature of Samay Raina as a digital work. She studies at MIT ADT University in Pune. The head is drawn big, as caricature asks. A wide grin fills the face. A cone of cream light falls onto a dark red wall. Hand-lettered words in Hindi float above him. They play on his name, since ‘samay’ means time. Alandkar moves between pencil, acrylics, poster colours, mixed media and digital art. Here she works on screen.

Art, for me, is a way of giving shape to thoughts and emotions that are sometimes difficult to put into words. I enjoy observing small details, experimenting with forms and colours and turning an idea in my mind into something tangible. My work moves between pencil, acrylics, poster colours, mixed media and digital art, with each medium allowing me to express a different side of my imagination. The process is not always easy. I often struggle with translating what I envision onto paper or a screen, especially when proportions, perspective, colours or the final composition do not turn out as I imagined. There have been moments of frustration and self-doubt, but…
