Escape from Reality
A golden figure falls from a red flower into the dark
A rose of red paint turns slowly in a green wind.
From its pale centre a blue river spills down the painting.
A small gold body falls with the water, arms first.
Around it the purple night is made of strokes like feathers.
Below, the dark pulls in a slow circle.
The figure does not look afraid. It looks light.
The work
Mrunmayee Chaitanya Alandkar is from MIT ADT University in Pune. Escape from Reality is a tall acrylic painting, 75 cm high and 30 cm wide. Short curved strokes cover every part of it. A red flower opens at the top. A blue stream falls from the flower. A small golden figure dives head first into a dark circle below. Alandkar also works in pencil, poster colours, mixed media and digital art. For her, art gives shape to thoughts and emotions that are "sometimes difficult to put into words".

In the artist’s words
Art, for me, is a way of giving shape to thoughts and emotions that are sometimes difficult to put into words. I enjoy observing small details, experimenting with forms and colours and turning an idea in my mind into something tangible. My work moves between pencil, acrylics, poster colours, mixed media and digital art, with each medium allowing me to express a different side of my imagination. The process is not always easy. I often struggle with translating what I envision onto paper or a screen, especially when proportions, perspective, colours or the final composition do not turn out as I imagined. There have been moments of frustration and self-doubt, but…
