Innocence
A calf rests in a ring of light, still wearing its bell
A calf lies down on a grey floor, a small bell at its throat.
A line of warm yellow holds its body, like the last sun on a wall.
Behind it another animal stands on thin legs, brown as old wood.
A window of orange light opens in the dark.
Blocks stack up in the corner, quiet and heavy.
Small leaves grow along the floor where there is no field.
The work
Sayali Khanvilkar has always lived in Mumbai. She is in her first year out of Sir J J School of Art. The city's distance from nature makes her care for it more. In Innocence a calf with a small bell lies at the front of the picture. Its pale body glows with a yellow edge. Behind it a brown animal stands in a dark space. Khanvilkar believes every living being feels with the same depth. She works with symbols and with forms and space.

What the universe entails, that creates and nurtures us, imbibes in me the liberty, calm, stability, tactile pleasures and displeasures. The thought of my work is mainly on the present time, surrounding incidents, nature and personal experiences. Humanity is slowly drifting true source nature and this disconnection is deeply unsettling. In the relentless pursuit of progress and competition, we have trapped ourselves in an endless race that…
