Nishkala Polamarasetty
Who am I?
Every face on this sheet gives a different answer
A yellow mouth laughs wide enough to fill the dark corner.
Beside it a blue cheek holds three small tears.
One mask is mint on one side and rust on the other.
The grey face with white eyes says nothing at all.
Two women lean into one outline, orange and blue, warm and cold.
Black lines run around everything like a fence that cannot decide who is inside.
The work
Nishkala Polamarasetty paints Who am I? in acrylic on Canson paper. Polamarasetty studies at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. The work dates from 2025 and measures 56 × 71 cm. Many faces crowd the sheet. Some look like masks. One face is half blue and half yellow. A grey face stares out with round white eyes. Two women at the right share one outline, one orange and one blue. Thick black lines hold every shape. A red heart, a paintbrush and a peacock feather sit among the faces.

For as long as they can remember, they have felt drawn to the entities that inhabit this earth alongside us, the trees, the rivers, flowers, insects, and natural shapes. This connection is not merely a passing appreciation for the aesthetic beauty of the outdoors; it is…
