Mohit
Untitled
Seven blue panels, seven pale stems, each one leaning a new way
Blue laid down with a wide brush, edges torn like the end of a wet day.
A stem rises in each one, pale as breath on a window.
The leaves lean left, then right, then open like fingers.
Someone has touched them with gold, only here and there.
Seven times the same sun, seven slightly different mornings.
White paper waits at the borders.
The work
Seven small panels sit in a row. Each one holds the pale shape of a leafy stem on deep blue. Small marks of gold touch some leaves. Mohit, from Amity University, Haryana, makes the work in 2023. Mohit often starts with photography because it shows small details that are easy to miss. A background in painting is clear in the brushed edges and layers of colour. The aim is a picture that keeps its link to reality without becoming "only a straightforward record".
In the artist’s words
“I was trying to look at an ordinary subject from a different perspective. I often begin with photography because it allows me to observe small details that can easily be overlooked. I did not want the work to become only a straightforward record, but I also did not want to lose its connection to reality.”
