Abstract muse
Rough grey stone, polished black, holding its breath
Grey stone, rubbed until a dark face wakes inside it.
A narrow waist, as if the block took a breath and held it.
The top tilts away, a flat plane catching the afternoon.
Rough skin on one side, polished night on the other.
On a chipped white plinth beside a light switch, it waits to be named.
The work
Abstract Muse is a stone sculpture by Rashmeet Kaur from the Government College of Arts. It dates from 2025 and stands 50 cm tall. The form rises and pinches in like a waist. Then it opens into a slanted, flat top. Some faces are polished dark and smooth. Others stay grey and rough. Kaur works with dreams, feelings and the subconscious. She lets the material guide the work. She does not fix one meaning. She wants each viewer to find their own.
In the artist’s words
“My practice explores dreams, identity, emotions and the subconscious. I am drawn to feelings and stories that are difficult to express in words. I work with different materials, textures and forms to make these thoughts tangible. My process involves experimentation and observation. I allow the material to guide the work. I want people to find their own meanings in my art.”
