Village
Two clay pots, one blue bucket, a grass roof against the sky
Grass roofs bend low like old brown hair.
The earth is the colour of tea left too long in the cup.
A red cup in her hand, an orange sari against the straw.
Two clay pots lean together as if talking.
The bucket holds a little of the sky.
A palm tree leans in to listen.
The work
In Village the Thrissur artist Ranjini A M paints two huts with thick grass roofs. A woman in an orange sari stands by a thin fence. She holds a small red cup. Two clay pots and a pale blue bucket rest on the brown earth. A coconut palm leans across the left side. Ranjini works in acrylic. The painting is 60 × 90 cm. Her college is SIES in Bombay. She says her work often begins with something familiar. Here she stays close to the ordinary day.

My works often begin with something familiar—a human eye, a staircase, a doorway, a natural element, or an everyday object—and gradually move beyond reality into an imagined space. Through this process, I seek to reveal meanings that may not be immediately visible. My…
