Veil of bloom
Roses take her eyes but leave her red mouth
A face goes under roses, red and coral and pink.
Only the mouth stays, painted the red of a closed door.
A brown butterfly sits where the eyes should be.
Blue petals gather at the throat like cool water.
White rivers move through the dark behind her.
Under one warm lamp, she keeps her looking to herself.
The work
Prachi Vishwakarma's college is Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University in Bhopal. In Veil of bloom (2025) she paints a woman whose eyes are hidden. Roses and a pale lilac shape cover the top of her face. A small butterfly rests between them. Blue flowers rise around her shoulders. Behind her, white bands curl across a black ground. Vishwakarma works in acrylic on canvas. She changes colours and backgrounds until a painting feels right. She finds a painting can be "stronger without too much detail."
In the artist’s words
“I used things like flowers, water, eyes, animals, feminine forms and spiritual imagery because they helped me express ideas that were sometimes difficult to explain with words. I like the idea that two people can look at the same painting and feel something completely different.”
