ARGHA PRATIM SADHU
untitled
Six masks wait in their windows for faces to arrive
Six windows cut into cream card.
In each one a face looks back, black ink pressed hard into white.
Feathers. A beak. A crown of three sharp points.
Behind them the same word repeats in grey, soft as breath on cold glass.
The paper is rough and full of small flecks.
No face here is a person.
Each one waits for someone to wear it.
The work
In this 2024 relief print by Argha Pratim Sadhu, six small panels sit in a cream mount in two rows of three. Each panel holds one mask, cut in strong black lines on white. One has feathers. One is a bird with a beak. One wears a crown of sharp points. Behind every mask a word in Bengali script repeats in soft grey. Sadhu is from Habra. His college is the College of Visual Art in Kolkata. He writes, "For me, reality is not limited to what is visible."

For me, reality is not limited to what is visible. Objects, landscapes, people and nature may act as starting points, but my intention is not to reproduce them literally. Instead, I am interested in the emotional and psychological responses they create within me. Through abstraction, I transform these experiences into a visual language of colour, form, line, texture and space. Colour is one of the most important elements in…
