Deer stand still while pink city blocks rise behind the grass
Green light pools like water in a wide glass bowl.
A pale deer turns away, her ears lit pink at the edges.
The stag holds still and looks back at you.
Far off, two small deer wait in the wet grass.
Pink walls stand at the corner of the field.
Leaves drawn in thin lines grow over all of it.
The work
Ajay Kushwah paints this untitled work in acrylic in 2025. Two deer fill the front of the picture. A pale deer turns her head to the left. A stag with tall antlers looks straight out at us. Two smaller deer stand in a green field behind them. In the top left corner, pink blocks look like buildings. Kushwah grew up in Delhi and studied painting at College of Art Delhi. He wants to show that people are part of nature.
In the artist’s words
“My paintings are mostly inspired by nature, animals, birds, landscapes and flowers. I try to weave a story in my paintings. Through my art I show the complex and symbiotic relationship between humans and the natural world. I see humanity as part of nature. I try to show people the changes taking place in nature.”
