Three bodies flinch from something we cannot see
Blue-green water dries in rings around three pale bodies.
Ink hatches each rib and shoulder like rain on a window.
Fingers curl as if the air has turned sharp.
One head bows. One face hides in an elbow.
The paper keeps the stain of every wave.
Nothing touches them, yet they brace.
The work
Three small panels sit side by side. In each a pale figure twists against a wash of blue-green. Pooja draws the bodies in fine ink lines that cross and build into shadow. Around them the colour pools and dries in soft stains. One figure lifts bent fingers to its face. One holds its own chest. One hides its face in the crook of an arm. Pooja studied in Banaras and works in Delhi. Here the figure is less a likeness than "a psychological presence".
In the artist’s words
“The human figure is central to my practice. I approach it as a psychological presence. I distort, fragment, overlap and reshape bodily forms to reflect the complexities of the mind. My layered surfaces are not simply backgrounds. They are psychological environments that hold memory and emotional residue. I want to make visible the unspoken: anxiety, vulnerability, fear and isolation.”
