The World Within
Sky for a chest, a pigeon for a head
Night the colour of ink. Pigeons cross it without a sound.
A bird's head looks out with orange eyes, calm and a little sad.
Inside the chest there is a summer sky. Clouds drift where a heart should be.
A pink pipe pours grain like sand in a clock.
Bubbles float past. Each one holds a small gold shard.
Below, the brown earth is full of empty holes.
The work
Shivam Aggarwal paints a figure with the head of a pigeon. Small pigeons sit on top of its head. Two more fly across a deep blue night. The body is a shape cut from a pale sky with soft white clouds. A pink tube runs down from the throat and pours yellow grain into a heap. Bubbles float in the air. Aggarwal works in acrylic on canvas at 101.6 × 76.2 × 2.54 cm. He holds a BFA in Painting from the College of Art in Delhi.
