Manisha
The silent cut
His face stays hidden. His sword stays in its sheath
A hat as wide as a roof. Under it, no face.
The robe falls in black folds, lit with the blue of late evening.
His hand rests on the sword. The blade stays inside.
Grey breath rises behind him like smoke from a cold fire.
Black leaves break off the air.
The grass at his feet is ink, sharp and still wet.
Nothing has moved yet.
The work
Manisha paints a lone swordsman in The Silent Cut. A wide hat hides his face. His long robe is black with cold blue lights. He holds a sword at his hip but does not draw it. Around him, grey washes rise like smoke. Dark flecks fly past like leaves. Acrylic lets her build layers. She says watercolour is softer and hard to predict. It has taught her to let go of full control. Manisha comes from Ranchi. Her college is Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Delhi University.

I love acrylics because they are bold, vibrant, and allow me to experiment with layers and textures. Watercolours, on the other hand, feel softer and more unpredictable. They have taught me patience and the importance of letting go of complete control. One of the biggest difficulties in my…
