The gentle street
Flowers spill from every window on a street no map shows
Teal dusk under a thin moon.
A yellow window holds red flowers like a held breath.
Wisteria drips purple over a blue rail.
Small bulbs hang on a wire, each one a drop of honey.
A bicycle leans and waits with flowers in its basket.
At the pink door a snail crosses the welcome mat in no hurry at all.
The work
The gentle street is the second of six paintings in the Little Escapes Collection by Parigya Gupta. Each painting in the set is an imagined place. Here a teal street holds a yellow window full of red flowers and a blue balcony hung with purple wisteria. A string of small lights runs across the top. Below sit a lilac door, a bicycle with a basket of flowers and a pink shop lined with books. Hand-lettered words ask us to unwind, breathe, relax and soak.
In the artist’s words
“A little street where every window welcomes you home. A place where the lights stay on a little longer, flowers spill from windows and even an ordinary walk feels a little magical. An escape into warmth, wonder and belonging.”
