Still life
A pink cloth falls between cool blue and warm gold
The jug stands tall and cool, the blue of deep water at the end of the day.
A pink cloth slips down behind it like something set down in a hurry.
The yellow pot holds a small green shadow in its belly.
White marks catch on every rim.
Brown paper breathes between the strokes.
The whole table feels warm, as if the sun has just left the room.
The work
Prem Shriwas is from the Govt Institute of Fine Arts in Indore. In this still life from 2024 he draws three things: a tall blue jug, a round yellow pot and a pink cloth that falls behind the jug and spreads under the pot. He works in soft pastel on brown paper. The paper shows through the strokes and becomes the warm middle tone. Small touches of white sit on the jug and the pot as reflected light. Shriwas says patience is one of the most important things in his work.

I love experimenting with different mediums, including sculpture, miniature painting, watercolor, and handmade natural pigments. Each medium teaches me something new and shapes my growth as an artist. One of my works, The Blue, is an abstract clay sculpture that explores balance, movement, and harmony through flowing forms. Rather than depicting a recognizable object, I wanted to create an open form that invites viewers to interpret it in their own way. The blue…
