Shan
A violet hand opens a fan made of light
A violet hand pulls the fan wide.
Each fold holds a strip of orange heat.
Red specks sit on the paper like sparks that never went out.
Gold flakes drift off the edge into the dark.
The nails curve longer than the fingers.
A string of red beads hangs loose at the wrist.
The sky is plum at the top and night below.
The work
Shan is a digital work by Maitrey Ayare, who comes from Chiplun and studies at the School of Fine Arts and Applied Arts, MIT-ADT. Ayare mostly enjoys drawing with paper and pencil and believes "every idea begins with a rough sketch on paper." Here the work lives on screen. A purple hand spreads a folded fan that glows orange and gold. Ayare does not try to hide small flaws. For this artist, "those imperfections are part of my artistic expression."
