Kamal Kishore
Robert Pattionson’s Batman
One cold blue look out of a room full of red
Everything here is red: the wall, the mask, the cape.
Red going dark, like a stove at night.
Light finds the lip, the chin, the hard edge of the cowl.
Then two small blue eyes, the only cold thing in the room.
They look to the side, past us, waiting.
The weave of the cloth shows through, like breath under the paint.
The work
Kamal Kishore paints Batman as played by Robert Pattinson. The work is from 2024. It is in acrylic and measures 42 × 30 × 0.5 cm. Almost the whole picture is red. Only the eyes are blue. Kishore studies at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College. He is based in Nainital. He likes to turn comic-book heroes into realistic faces. He often works day and night for weeks on a single piece. Here that care shows in the soft light on the lips, the chin and the edge of the mask.
In the artist’s words
“Superhero characters open up a new world of creativity for me. I particularly enjoy creating realistic versions of comic-book characters, bringing them into a more detailed and lifelike form. I put my heart and soul into every detail, often working day and night for weeks to bring my vision to life.”
