Prem
Eyes closed, a snake for a scarf, the moon in the hair
Blue skin, the blue of deep water just before night.
A thin line of white light rests on each closed eye.
The moon is a small white cut in the hair.
A snake the colour of wet ash leans in close and stays.
Red beads hang still at the wrist.
Around it all the grey is rough as a temple step after rain.
Nothing here is asleep. It is only listening.
The work
Punit Kadwane, of Shipra Fine Art College in Ujjain, paints Prem in acrylic on a round canvas of 60 × 60 cm. The work is from 2026. A blue figure rests its chin on one hand with eyes closed. A crescent moon sits in the coiled hair. A grey snake curls around the shoulders. Kadwane uses Hindu mythology as a living language. He builds the surface in layers so the grey ground feels rough like weathered stone.

In the artist’s words
My artistic practice is rooted in the exploration of spirituality, mythology, and the subtle relationship between the inner and outer worlds. Through painting, I seek to translate intangible emotions, philosophical reflections, and cultural memories into visual narratives that resonate with contemporary audiences while remaining connected to the richness of Indian tradition. I use multiple mediums like acrylics, oils, ink and mixed media on canvas. Drawing inspiration from Hindu mythology, sacred symbolism, folk traditions, and personal experiences, I create compositions that move beyond literal representation. My works often feature divine figures, symbolic forms, and meditative spaces that invite viewers to engage with themes of devotion, consciousness, transformation, and self-discovery. Rather than…
