Ram Vishal
Power
Every line here is light pulled out of the dark
White pencil on black paper, like frost on a night window.
The crown opens behind his head, a flower cut from silver.
Rings sit on heavy knuckles. The mace waits under one hand.
He does not move. He has nowhere he needs to go.
At the edges, flames rise and thin into smoke.
The dark is not empty. It is only what the light has not reached yet.
The work
Power is a 2023 drawing by Ram Vishal from Graphic Era Hill University in Dehradun. Vishal draws with a white glass marking pencil on a black sheet. So each line adds light, not shadow. Slowly the figure of Hanuman comes out of the dark. His crown, armbands and rings are full of fine pattern. His face is calm under heavy brows. One hand rests on a mace. Flames rise at the edges. The work is one of eight in Vishal's collection.
In the artist’s words
“There were moments when the artwork did not turn out the way I had imagined. I had to make changes, correct mistakes and try different approaches. I treated these difficulties as opportunities to understand my medium better. Creating art is not only about producing a finished painting. It is also about observing, making decisions, solving problems and being patient.”
