Nikita Dhali
Pious Love
Every line here is a circle that never breaks
Beetroot pink soaks into rings as fine as thread.
Each leaf turns slowly around its own centre.
Between them the grey ground hums with smaller whorls.
Dark stains sit in the grey like water left too long.
A white seam runs where one shape meets the next.
One pink moon slips off the lower edge, still turning.
The work
In Pious Love, Nikita Dhali fills every leaf and every round form with fine spiral lines. Pink and violet colour pools inside them. A grey ground of smaller spirals holds the shapes together. Dhali first studied CS and B.Com in a small town where no one knew painting was a subject. After a Bachelor's in Painting, Dhali began "making a circle without any break in the line". Dhali now studies for a Master's at MSU Baroda in Vadodara. Dhali calls the spirals "my breath, my sadhana".
In the artist’s words
“One day, after completing my Bachelor's in Painting, I asked, "Now what should I paint?" No rules, no guidance. I started creating patterns. I felt like making a circle without any break in the line. That is how spirals happened to me. They really chose me. It became my breath, my sadhana.”
