Outdoor study
A white figure sits in the shade beside a heap of sand
Sand piled high, the colour of warm bread.
A white figure sits and thinks, his chin on his fist.
Leaf shadows move across the road like slow water.
The brick wall holds the heat of the afternoon.
A small stone head waits by the tree, broken pieces at its feet.
Nobody comes. The gate stays shut.
The work
Harish Sharma paints a quiet corner in strong daylight. A heap of pale sand rests by the kerb. A white sculpted figure sits on a chair with its head in its hand. A small bust and broken stone pieces lie near a tree. Behind them stand a red brick wall and a closed iron gate. Sharma is studying for a Master of Fine Arts in Painting at Jamia Millia Islamia. He says his work comes from walking the streets and looking closely at everyday life.

In the artist’s words
My name is Harish Sharma, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Jamia Millia Islamia, having completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Art in Delhi. Being a visual artist, my work doesn't just come from sitting in a studio and mixing colors—it comes from walking down the streets, observing everyday life, and looking closely at the people who keep this big city running. My understanding of migration is not something I just read about in books or observed from a distance; I have lived through it myself. My family’s roots trace back to Bihar, and I know what it feels…
