Tanishq Pratap Singh
No faith
Under a violet sky she closes her eyes and waits
Magenta clouds press down on the slope of her back.
A thin red light runs along her nose and one short horn.
Her eyes are half closed, heavy, not asleep.
An ear hangs low like a petal near the end of its week.
At the edge of the sky a pink leaf lifts away.
Under the paint, the cloth of working trousers keeps its weave.
The work
A street cow fills this painting by Tanishq Pratap Singh. He lives and works in Rudrapur in Uttarakhand, where cows stand between the traffic and the shops. He photographs them on his phone and draws them in his own hand. Then he chooses a surface to suit the feeling of the work. Here he paints in acrylic on denim. Singh sees something of himself in these animals. They stand in the open and endure a world they did not make.

In the artist’s words
My name is Tanishq Pratap Singh, an art practitioner living and working in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, working across canvas, paper, and unconventional materials. I'm interested in observing daily life realities that reflects vulnerability, endurance and continuing to adapt. Street cows makes me easy to put that out as visual and also I see my own conditions sometimes in them. This deliberate choice makes me paint and explore psychological experiences in a spectacle. I likewise choose mediums as participating agent in my storytelling, to narrate themes of memory, fragility and identity. I paint how suffering quietly becomes normal in everyday life. Using street cows, informed by cultural observations, I explore psychological experiences…
