Mohammad Sadikot
Negotiated Form LOT-04
Small figures on a green hill, each one losing its edge
Rust stones stack like a body learning to stand.
Ochre figures lean together on a low green hill.
Behind them charcoal falls in soft grey rain.
On the right the grey columns thin out like smoke.
No edge here holds for long.
Each shape is half a person and half the air around it.
The work
Mohammad Sadikot is a Pune artist from the JJ School of Art, Design and Architecture. Negotiated Form LOT-04 is a small work on paper, 11.43 × 11.43 cm. Tall shapes stand on a low green hill. Some are ochre and rust. Others are grey. Sadikot uses watercolour, soft pastel and charcoal. Watercolour builds slowly in layers. Charcoal is quick. The edges stay soft on purpose, because for Sadikot "we are not fixed".
In the artist’s words
“I try to paint people the way they feel, not just how they look. My figures don't have hard, clear lines. They blend into the space around them. People are never fixed. We change with our mood, our surroundings and the people we're with. The hardest part is knowing when to stop.”
