Moods
A monkey shuts its eyes and lets the letters sing
Ochre and rust, the colours of dry earth and old gold.
A monkey sits on a brown hill and shuts its eyes.
The headphones lift away like two slow wheels.
Letters drift out of a pink cloud and turn into notes.
A white ribbon curls past the long grey tail.
Nothing is loud here. The music stays inside.
The work
Tridisha Dutta comes from Nalbari in Assam and paints with colours made from natural extracts. In Moods a small golden monkey sits with crossed legs and closed eyes. A pair of large headphones seems to break apart around its head. Above, a pink cloud fills with letters and musical notes. Dutta is a painting student at Assam University, Silchar. Animals are an important part of Dutta's work. Letters often appear too. They carry inner feelings and a bond with culture.
In the artist’s words
“Sometimes I use alphabets in my artworks to express my inner feelings and my love and connection to my culture. Animal figures are another important part of my work. I like to explore animal forms in different ways. The works I have presented here are made using natural colours and different mixed materials.”
