Kamal Kishore
Logan
A face so close you can count the scars
Black so deep the paper seems to fall away.
Out of it a face leans close, grey skin folded like a dry riverbed.
Each whisker is a single grey stroke.
A cut on the cheek still looks wet.
The eyes hold you and do not let go.
At the edges, steel catches a thin cold light.
You step back before you know why.
The work
Kamal Kishore draws comic-book heroes as if they were real people. In Logan he works in charcoal and pencil on a sheet of sketchbook paper. The face fills almost the whole page. Kishore builds the skin with tiny marks. Deep lines cross the forehead. A fresh cut opens on the cheek. Steel claws rise at the edges. He often works for weeks on one drawing. His college is Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and he is based in Nainital. The drawing dates from 2024.
In the artist’s words
“My interests lean towards superhero characters. I particularly enjoy creating realistic versions of comic-book characters, bringing their fictional identities into a more detailed and lifelike form while adding my own artistic vision to them. I always try to blend multiple mediums, such as graphite and charcoal. I often work day and night for weeks to bring my vision to life.”
