A tusked deer runs through gold light, trailing purple wind
Amber pours down between the trunks like late honey.
The deer is mid-stride, one hoof lifted over the grass.
Two white tusks, small as new moons, hang from its lip.
Violet ribbons leave its mouth and lie on the air.
Behind it a flower opens in the same cool colour.
The trees go dark at the edges.
Only the animal is warm all the way through.
The work
A musk deer runs through a forest full of gold light. Two long white tusks curve down from its mouth. Purple lines flow from its mouth and trail behind its body like wind or scent. A pale purple flower rises in their path. Ajay Kushwah paints the scene in acrylic. He was born in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh and grew up in Delhi. Since childhood he has loved the sky, animals and birds. In his paintings he tries to tell a story and to show the changes taking place in nature.
