If everything around seems dark look again you may be the light
Even the word Dark is written in pink
Pink at the top of each letter, green at the root.
The word Dark is the biggest thing on the page.
It is written in the same bright ink as the rest.
Blue thins into purple where the pen pressed down.
A thread of ink curls off the last word and loops back.
The white paper shows through every gap.
The work
Riya writes a short line of hope with gel pens on a small sheet of paper, 21 × 14.8 cm. She is a student at Guru Nanak Girls College in Yamuna Nagar. Each letter is split into two colours. Pink sits above green and blue sits above purple. The largest word on the page is "Dark". Riya chooses the lettering styles and plans where each word sits. She writes some letters again and again until she is satisfied.

“I wanted my work to look attractive while keeping the message clear and easy to understand. I enjoyed choosing lettering styles and thinking about how the words should be placed on the page. Sometimes I had to repeat letters until I was satisfied. It taught me to be patient and not give up when something did not look perfect.”
