Fih
A small red fish with a big eye, alone in yellow
A red fish hangs in a field of yellow like noon.
Its eye is a black bead ringed with gold. It looks back.
The scales carry a faint lilac, the shine of wet skin.
The top fin opens like a fan of thin bones.
No water is drawn. The yellow holds it up anyway.
It seems about to speak. Then it swims on.
The work
Nathan Biju George studies at the MIT ADT School of Fine Arts and Applied Arts. George is based in Kochi and has made digital art only since 2025. Fih is a digital work from 2026, 40 × 40 cm. One red fish faces left on a flat yellow ground. The scales hold soft touches of pink and lilac. George works hard to make colours stand out. Here the warm red and the strong yellow pull against each other. Each fish, for George, has a small life of its own.
In the artist’s words
“I always feel comfort when drawing fishies. There is something about drawing aquatic life that makes me feel calm and happy. I like to believe that each fish has human characteristics, living their own lives, just like us. I want my fishies to feel like little characters while still keeping the comfort and happiness that I feel when I draw.”
