Dead soul
Every petal burns bright in a painting called Dead soul
A yellow petal opens wider than a hand.
Orange runs down its ribs like heat from a stove.
Magenta leans in from the left and blue folds over the top.
At the bottom, small pink seeds gather in a tight ring.
There is no sky here, only flower pressed against flower.
And still the name says something has gone quiet.
The work
Ram Vishal makes Dead soul in 2023 as a student at Graphic Era Hill University in Dehradun. It is one of eight paintings in a single collection. Huge petals fill the canvas from edge to edge. Magenta sits beside yellow, orange and deep blue. Vishal works in acrylic on stretched canvas. He says keeping the colour balance and proportions right "required patience and continuous effort." When a part does not turn out as planned, he corrects it and tries again. The dark title sits against all this bright colour.
In the artist’s words
“Maintaining proportions, achieving the right colour balance, creating realistic details, managing textures and keeping the overall composition harmonious required patience and continuous effort. When a work did not turn out the way I had imagined, I made changes, corrected mistakes and tried different approaches. I treated these difficulties as opportunities to understand my medium better.”
