Breakthrough
Pink and green waves bend toward a single glowing point
Rose and olive bend like cloth pulled through a doorway.
The brush runs dry and the grain of the surface shows through.
Red rises from the bottom edge like heat from a stove.
Everything leans toward one corner.
There a pale knot turns and opens.
At its heart a small coal of orange holds still.
The work
Vishakha Gautam paints moments of change. She thinks of times when something ends or when a person sees life in a new way. Breakthrough is a square acrylic painting from 2024. Gautam is based in New Delhi. She starts with a feeling but does not plan every step. "I let it develop as I work and allow myself to change things along the way," she says. Here long curved strokes of pink, green and orange roll across the surface. They turn into a spiral with a pale, glowing centre.
In the artist’s words
“A lot of my work comes from moments of change, when something ends, something shifts or you suddenly see yourself or life differently. These paintings are about breakthroughs, transformation, finding strength after difficult experiences and growing into a different version of yourself. I use colour, movement and simple symbols to turn feelings into something visual.”
