Akaza
A boy caught in the eye of a demon
Blue the colour of a cold night pressing on a window.
Black stripes fall across the face like bars.
Pink lashes tear open at the edges.
In the wet dark of the eye a small boy shouts in gold.
Sparks of white light cross him and do not burn.
The paper keeps its white border, a quiet room around a storm.
The work
Komal Singh paints Akaza in 2025 with simple acrylic colour on smooth 300gsm paper. The title is the name of a demon in the Japanese anime Demon Slayer. Singh fills the sheet with one close eye. Dark stripes run across a blue face. Pink lashes open like torn cloth. Inside the eye a small boy looks back in gold light. Singh studies at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College at Delhi University. She lives in Faridabad. She also turns film scenes into paper animation for short online videos.
