The Open Studio / Ananya Sharma
Ananya Sharma
A little too red
One eye open, one eye shut and tomatoes everywhere
Tomatoes ride across a cream scarf, their stems still green.
Under it, black hair falls in heavy strokes.
One eye looks straight at you, rimmed in red.
The other closes, its lid the same red as the fruit.
A red fingernail rests on the cheek.
Light sits on the nose. Freckles scatter below.
The secret is shared with anyone who looks.
The work
Ananya Sharma studies at MIT SOFA in Pune. A little too red is a reference study. Sharma finds an image of a model online and paints from it on a tablet. The tools are digital hard and soft brushes. Sharma does not hold to one fixed style. Each work is a way to try a new approach and to sharpen skills. In this one the red moves from the scarf to the eyelids to a single painted nail.
In the artist’s words
“I am not committed to a fixed art style and was simply trying to have fun exploring different ways to illustrate things, while also polishing my skills. 'A little too red' was essentially a reference study of a model I found online.”
