2. Song of See

Where a wing ends and a fin begins, the sea sings

A pale ground, like salt left on a rock after the tide.
Red shapes curl across it, the colour of gills.
A black wing or a fin. It is hard to tell which.
Everything moves one way, toward the far edge.
The white is not empty. It holds them up like water.
I hear no song yet, only the hush before one.

The work

This large painting is made with acrylic and gouache on canvas. It measures 180 × 112 cm. Satadru Sovan Banduri paints, makes installations of light and performs with his own body as the material. In his paintings, birds, animals and creatures of the sea share the canvas with the human body. Banduri does not treat harm to nature as a matter of figures. He describes his work as "framing environmental collapse as a profound spiritual rupture." Here dark red and black forms move across a pale ground.
