Persistence
The paint runs down. The red folds hold on
A circle of red, held up like a plate to the light.
Folds of rose and rust curl over one another, petal over petal.
Thin gold threads cross them like cracks in old glaze.
On the left the colour gives way and runs down in long stripes.
Pale canvas shows at the edges, cool as morning.
Nothing here stops moving. Nothing here lets go.
The work
Persistence is painted in oil and inks on a round canvas, 60 centimetres across. Tanishq Pratap Singh lives and works in Rudrapur in Uttarakhand. He paints daily life that shows vulnerability, endurance and the need to keep adapting. His works grow from sketches, photographs and things he notices as he watches. Singh then chooses the materials to suit the feeling of each work. Here, folded red forms curl like petals. Thin gold lines run through them. Paint drips down the left side.

In the artist’s words
My name is Tanishq Pratap Singh, an art practitioner living and working in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, working across canvas, paper, and unconventional materials. I'm interested in observing daily life realities that reflects vulnerability, endurance and continuing to adapt. Street cows makes me easy to put that out as visual and also I see my own conditions sometimes in them. This deliberate choice makes me paint and explore psychological experiences in a spectacle. I likewise choose mediums as participating agent in my storytelling, to narrate themes of memory, fragility and identity. I paint how suffering quietly becomes normal in everyday life. Using street cows, informed by cultural observations, I explore psychological experiences…
