Prachi Vishwakarma
Ocean guardian
A turtle carries a sunset on its back through blue flowers
A shell the colour of a mango cut open.
White lines hold each warm piece in place, like a window of stained glass.
The flippers are cool blue nets, pulling slowly through green water.
Small flowers drift past with dark centres, like eyes that do not blink.
The turtle does not hurry.
It carries the last of the day down into the deep.
The work
Prachi Vishwakarma paints a sea turtle swimming through deep green water. Its shell glows yellow, orange and violet, like evening light. Pale blue lines mark every plate on its flippers. Blue flowers float around it like a garden under the sea. Vishwakarma studies at Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University in Bhopal. She often paints flowers, water and animals. She keeps changing colours, forms and backgrounds until a painting feels right. Then she tries to stop before adding too much.
In the artist’s words
“I used things like flowers, water, eyes, animals, feminine forms and spiritual imagery because they helped me express ideas that were sometimes difficult to explain with words. I like the idea that two people can look at the same painting and feel something completely different.”
