Brown Hue
A quiet room where even the walls keep watching
A clock sits on a stack of closed books and keeps its own time.
The kiwis are the only green in the room, cut open to show their seeds.
Every shape wears a dark line, as if someone traced the house to keep it safe.
Faces in the wall watch in white chalk lines.
Brown, rose and the pink of old brick.
The tablecloth runs toward me in warm squares.
The work
Brown Hue is a still life in acrylic from 2026 by Priyanka Nandan of Ghaziabad. Her college is Banasthali Vidhyapith. Nandan works mainly in folk art, abstract art and landscape. In this painting she brings folk faces and abstract blocks into one room. A vase, a jug, a clock, a pile of books and a bowl of kiwi fruit sit on a cloth of coloured squares. Every shape has a dark outline. Faces drawn in thin white lines look out from the wall behind.

In the artist’s words
My name is Priyanka Nandan, and I am a passionate artist who believes that art is not simply about colours, brushes, and canvases; it is a beautiful way of expressing emotions, ideas, experiences, and imagination. For me, art has always been a meaningful part of my life. My journey with painting began in childhood, and over the years, my interest gradually developed into a deep passion and a serious commitment to my creative work. My specialisation is mainly in Folk Art, Abstract Art, and Landscape Painting. I also enjoy creating portraits and experimenting with different subjects, techniques, colours, and compositions. I love exploring new ideas and taking up different kinds…
