Kamal Kishore
Wonder Woman
Her stare holds still while a thousand dark curls move around it
Grey paper, a little creased at the edges.
She looks out and does not blink.
Her hair falls in a thousand dark threads, black on black.
The tiara holds a small star of white.
Light rests on her nose, her chin, her lower lip.
One curl escapes past the edge of the page, still moving.
The work
Kamal Kishore draws Wonder Woman in charcoal and pencil on paper. Kishore likes to make comic-book heroes look real. Here she looks straight at us. Fine dark lines build every curl of her long hair. Soft shading gives her skin small marks and texture. The star on her tiara catches the light. The paper around her is left bare. Kishore often works day and night for weeks on one piece. The drawing is from 2023. Kishore is from Nainital.
In the artist’s words
“My interests lean heavily towards superhero characters because they open up a new world of creativity. I particularly enjoy creating realistic versions of comic-book characters, bringing their fictional identities into a more detailed and lifelike form while adding my own artistic vision to them. I put my heart and soul into every detail, often working day and night for weeks.”
