Harley Quinn
Two colours of hair, two blue eyes, everything else in grey
Grey skin, built from a thousand soft strokes of charcoal.
Two eyes the blue of a gas flame.
One pigtail red as a fresh cut, the other cold as a swimming pool.
A thin silver rod rests on dark lips.
The word on her collar sits half in shadow.
She smiles as if she knows a secret about you.
The work
Kamal Kishore, of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, draws Harley Quinn, the comic-book character, as a real face. Most of the drawing is charcoal and pencil in soft greys. Only a few parts carry colour: red hair on one side, blue hair on the other and two bright blue eyes. Kishore adds these with coloured pencils and acrylics. Kishore sees this mix of media as a strength of the work. Some pieces take months of planning, testing and detail.
In the artist’s words
“I always try to blend multiple mediums in my artworks, such as graphite, charcoal, acrylics and coloured pencils. I particularly enjoy creating realistic versions of comic-book characters, bringing their fictional identities into a more detailed and lifelike form while adding my own artistic vision to them.”
