The Slow Corner
A bookshop where every sign tells you there is no hurry
Yellow bulbs hang on a wire like small moons above the tree.
The sky behind the city burns pink and orange.
Inside, the books stand in tall coloured rows.
A bicycle rests with an empty basket and nowhere to go.
Lavender leans from its pot onto the grey stones.
A red ladybird crosses the step where the words say: just this moment.
The work
The Slow Corner is the first of six paintings in the Little Escapes Collection by Parigya Gupta of Gurugram. Each painting shows an imagined place. Gupta says these places exist "somewhere between memory and imagination". This one is a small shop of books and coffee at dusk. Painted signs hang in the windows. They say "Today is enough" and "You have time". A yellow bicycle waits by the door. The work is acrylic on a small canvas, 20 × 20 cm.
In the artist’s words
“Where time forgets to rush. For the moments when doing nothing feels like exactly what you need. A cup of coffee. A good book. A little greenery. A quiet corner of your own. An invitation to pause, without needing a reason.”
