Childhood friendship
Five friends on one wall, a paper boat at their feet
Green and pale yellow, the field goes soft behind them.
Five pairs of bare feet hang above the wet earth.
One arm rests across two shoulders.
A paper boat turns slowly in a ring of ripples.
At the end of the wall a boy hugs his knees and a dog leans in.
The knife has left every blade of grass standing.
The work
Shivam Aggarwal cuts this scene into wood and prints it on paper. Five children sit in a row on a low wall. Their bare feet hang over wet ground. A paper boat floats on the water below. A dog leans on the last boy at the end. Aggarwal has just finished his BFA in Painting at the College of Art in Delhi. He also paints, makes sculpture and models clay. Here the cut lines of the block give the grass, hair and skin their texture.
