Comfort in quiet
The cat looks away. The boy holds on
A red room cut into a hundred small walls.
The cat hangs heavy and gold in the boy's arms.
His eyes are almost closed. Its eyes stay open.
A green lampshade hangs like a folded leaf.
The chair waits with its cushion of tiny triangles.
Nobody speaks. Stripes and angles hold still together.
The work
Shivam Aggarwal paints a boy holding a striped orange cat close to his chest. The cat looks off to one side. The boy keeps his face near it with his eyes half shut. Aggarwal breaks every surface into flat planes of colour. The red wall, green lamp, orange chair and wooden table all split into sharp shapes. The work is acrylic on canvas and measures 76.2 × 60.96 cm. Aggarwal studied Painting at the College of Art in Delhi. He likes to draw and paint from life. He studies form and light.
