Forest Path
A brown path bends into the trees and asks you to follow
A path of brown earth turns right and does not say where.
Red flowers burn low on the left, close as a crowd.
The trunks stand dark, each one holding its place.
Light comes through in yellow pieces, warm on the leaves.
The grass is drawn in loops, like thread pulled loose.
You could walk in. You could stay here and wait.
The work
Akash Goenka spends as much time in nature as Delhi weather allows. Goenka's landscapes come from familiar places, paths and flowers. In Forest Path, a brown earth path bends away into a wood. Red and orange flowers crowd the left side. Dark trunks rise against yellow and green light. Goenka works in oil pastel on paper and builds colour in layers. Small loops and strokes make the grass. For Goenka, the real challenge is knowing when to stop. Goenka has made art seriously since 2019.
In the artist’s words
“My landscapes come from observing familiar places, paths and flowers. I'm in love with oil pastels: their immediacy, their texture and the way they let me build up colour and atmosphere in layers. I'm less interested in making a beautiful painting than a moving one. Something that makes someone pause and feel anything at all.”
