A day at mondstadt
Not one blending brush touched this whole sunlit town
Orange roofs crowd the bottom edge like tiles left warming in the sun.
A windmill swings its cloth sails toward us, grey and patient.
Clouds pile up in lilac and cream, each one cut with a clean edge.
Far away a pale mountain points into the deep blue.
Nothing here is blended. Every colour sits beside the next and holds its ground.
A whole town is awake under this sky.
The work
Ananya Sharma studies at MIT SOFA in Pune and works mostly on a tablet. For this picture Sharma sets a strict rule: no blending brush at all. The work is made with one hard brush, probably a marker. So every cloud, roof and tree is built from flat patches of colour laid side by side. The title points to Genshin Impact, a game Sharma names as an influence. Sharma loves busy backgrounds and enjoys hunting for small hidden details in other artists' pictures.
In the artist’s words
“While working on "A Day at Mondstadt" I challenged myself by not touching a single blending brush and using just one hard brush, probably a marker. My artworks so far are greatly influenced by my interests, like Genshin. I love to take time and zoom into the background, looking for Easter eggs in people's works.”
